Candle Care & Safety Tips
A little care goes a long way in getting the most out of your handcrafted candle. Follow these simple tips to enjoy a clean, safe, and long-lasting burn every time.
🕯️ Candle Care
- First burn matters: Burn your candle until the wax pool reaches the edge of the jar (about one hour per inch of diameter). Candles have a "memory" — this prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn.
- Trim your wick: Trim to ¼" before every burn to prevent soot, smoke, and an oversized flame. This is the single most important step for candle care.
- Limit burn time: Avoid burning for longer than 4 hours at a time. If the flame becomes large or starts dancing, extinguish, let it cool, and trim the wick before relighting.
- Handle glass with care: Glass containers are fragile — always place on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Know when to stop: Discontinue use when ½" of wax remains, or when the candle will no longer stay lit, to prevent the glass from shattering.
- Replace the lid carefully: Always extinguish the flame fully before replacing the lid.
- Flaky tops are normal: Plant wax candles (soy, coconut, rapeseed) may develop a flaky or crusty appearance after burning — this is completely normal and does not affect quality.
- Frosting is natural: Frosting on hand-poured candles is caused by temperature fluctuations and is a sign of natural wax. It does not affect burn quality.
- Air bubbles are fine: Small air bubbles may appear in pure plant wax candles due to temperature changes — they do not affect the candle's quality or performance.
⚠️ Safety Tips
- Place your candle on a stable, non-flammable, heat-resistant surface.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from flammable materials such as bedding, curtains, decorations, and clothing.
- Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Always burn candles in a well-ventilated area.
